Visit to Los Pipitos Esquipulas.Matagalpa

By Toon Oomen
Stendenband Tilburg Matagalpa
Board Of Directors
After a long journey of more than two hours we arrived, Matha García and I in Esquipulas, a town already known from previous visits principally mountainous, which is far from the provincial capital of 62.4 Km Matagalpa, but some sections are under construction. That is the organization's Pipitos, with which we have a fairly regular contact. Every time when I come into the room, something happens to me: I am impressed by the way of seeing me, by the faces of children / as, by the warmth I feel, especially by veteran Dona Paula. We greeted warmly.

We talked about what happens: I notice the absence of many children and two companions, who are in training for sports in Managua. I wonder: sport for disabled children? Yes, I Dona Paula explains: "There are young people and athletes participating in the Olympics both departmental and national level." What good news!

Also talked with three members of the Board; are novel, since October only part of it. They do not have much experience yet; good training they need, but they are well engaged; They are also parents with disabled children.

Esquipulas´s River
We enjoy being with them. We take a fresh and some cookies and-so quickly returned to Matagalpa. It was a very interesting and fruitful visit -so also said Martha.

Junta Directiva Los Pipitos

UCA San Ramón, Matagalpa and their eagerness to overcome the Roya

Master Toon Oome continues to develop its agenda very promptly and efficiently. Today met with Lic. Blanca Rosa Molina, Manager of the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of the municipality of San Ramón (UCA-San Ramón) who received him early in the morning, March 27, 2015.

Lic. Molina, who is also President of CECOCAFEN is a lady of very small stature, but with vast knowledge in matters of cooperatives involved with them since 1993, making it worthy of the charges now holds, white complexion and green eyes deep, we met in his office in the town of San Ramon, 12.1 km from the provincial capital of Matagalpa, the road still under construction, has sections that no vehicle checkpoints and that slows a little arrival at destination, a little more than 20 minutes on a motorcycle.

They talked entertaining and frankly on the subject of coffee, and Lic. Molina, responded to a battery of 8 questions that led Toon drafted in advance, including the number of partners, cooperatives, involvement of rust in coffee and its impact on the co-financing, in order, questions of great interest to the friend Toon Oome. Also the opportunity to talk with the President of the UCA San Ramón, Ms. Mireya Garay, who in turn is a member of a cooperative called Privilege, run entirely by women that have come forward themselves waging get a toaster was given the allowing them to produce and process coffee, package it and market it with great success, since its products are offered in Matagalpa, San Ramon and even in their own community, consume the product.

Rust in coffee, is the most devastating disease in the ruble, caused by a fungus that affects the coffee leaves causing premature leaf drop that affects the low production thereof. For an idea, in 2012 a total of 25 million pounds was obtained, and with the involvement of rust fell to 6 million pounds, this means a loss about a little over 40% of production.

Leaf with rust fungus

We hope that this approach is very beneficial for the coffee sector, which was affected by the plague of rust during 2012-2013 and seeks as raise their crops destroyed and again like a phoenix, with greater impetus for the welfare of families farmers of San Ramon.

A visit in height: Toon Oome in Matagalpa

Toon Oome is visiting our city of Matagalpa, although he is in a different mission with members of Algemene Onderwijsbond (AOb) Union of Education in the Netherlands, something similar as ANDEN in our country that brings together much of the Nicaraguan teachers to make replicas with Matagalpans educators awareness of child labor.

Toon Oome, or just Tom as it is called the same for these tropical sides, paused in his schedule and visited the Mano Committee Back to share with the Board some details of his visit, but also to give her words of encouragement and hope to the challenges envision many changes, some harder than others and that will test the mettle of Friendship and Twinning between Tilburg and Matagalpa for 31 years without interruption.

Toon, a teacher, slim body with the European average, slightly more than 1.80 meters tall, frank smile and a gentle and good-natured character, would be a description of the physical Friend. With much knowledge in educational topics that fascinate him, and now several times their feelings surfaced as a teacher.

With the participation of all agencies and institutions that in one way or another, known tenacious efforts of these volunteers who have worked from Tilburg, in favor of education, social and economic aspects of our city, with the only remuneration that is invaluable: FRIENDSHIP.

Today, very early I accompanied the Master Oome to different institutions including the Unite-Managua, FAREM-Matagalpa, FUMDEC and Escuela Normal, to give them two essential questions: What can or can offer Matagalpa to Tilburg? and What does or can mean Tilburg to Matagalpa?

Everywhere he was received in a pleasant, pleasant and friendly, largely because of the smile and contagious spirit of Toon helped create that warm atmosphere. Issues of education, the teaching life were addressed Interoceanic Canal even conversed with the Lord Dean of the UNAN-Managua, FAREM-Matagalpa MSc. Víctor Gutiérrez. In the Escuela Normal chatted briefly with student teachers and urge the tenacity and never act on "autopilot", that is without the spirit and zeal to share the bread of teaching with children and matagalpinas girls .

It was a nice way to share with actors who have been part of these 31 years of Friendship between Tilburg and Matagalpa and today, we ask answer these two questions, which seem simple, but must have the essential support to achieve define this relationship between two brotherly peoples.

Responses wait institutions and bodies, which are sure to confirm the thanks of this city to friends Tilburg, Holland.

Master Frans Couwenberg expressed in his speech of thanks from a recognition for their dedication Twinning by the commune in Tilburg: "What I would like to share with you are the future prospects of our partnership, because there is still much to do by Matagalpa, "and indeed it is, the proof is that next April we will be visiting teachers who shared through workshops with Twinned schools and two teachers Fonty's Tilburg PABO that interact with teachers and students Normal School José Martí, all thanks to efforts to undertake Frans Couwenberg and Miranda van der Klaauw, managers Stedenband Tilburg Matagalpa, who also accompanied the representation of PABO Tilburg. This relationship of affection and friendship among people without family ties, have conquered the hearts of Matagalpa and this friendship will endure even if the path becomes uncertain and difficult, but the helping hand forged in 31 years, will be the cornerstone which is sustained the Brotherhood.
